Who We Are

RoboCars Inc. is a spinoff from Carnegie Mellon University considered to be a birthplace of autonomous driving technology dating back to 1984.  The Tartan Racing team from Carnegie Mellon won the famous 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge for autonomous vehicles – the event that triggered the creation of the global autonomous vehicle industry today.

Founding

RoboCars Inc was founded by Raj Rajkumar, a pioneer in the domain of autonomous vehicles since 2004. He directed at Carnegie Mellon the large General Motors-CMU Vehicular Information Technology and Autonomous Driving Collaborative Research Laboratory from 2004-2020. Raj and the GM-CMU CRL played a pivotal role in the success of Tartan Racing in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge..
